DESCRIPTION

For sale is a sculptural oak sideboard by the German manufacturer Gerhard Bartels, dating back to the late 1970s (according to the previous owner). This rare model features four lockable doors and stands out with a striking, three-dimensional faceted geometric relief on the fronts. While Bartels‘ designs with square patterns are far more common, this piece is an exceptional rarity. The artfully crafted structure resembles the precise facets of fine gemstones, creating a captivating play of light and shadow depending on the illumination. Retaining its original manufacturer’s label, this is a masterpiece of brutalist mid-century design that perfectly combines sculptural elegance with functional storage.

CONDITION

The exterior is in very good, well-maintained original condition with minimal signs of wear and a small scratch on the lower right corner (image 13). Minor modifications have been made to the interior: the bottom shelf displays usage-related discoloration from the rubber feet of a former stereo system (image 14). Additionally, the back panel in the center section has been removed for cable management, and an internal light has been added (easily uninstalled if desired). The locks work perfectly.
