DESCRIPTION
Offered here is a rare design classic of museum quality: the S-Chair (Model 275), designed by Verner Panton and manufactured by Thonet. This 1956 design is a visionary example of Panton’s exploration of curves and statics. The sculptural, cantilevered form made of molded plywood in black is one of the most significant designs in modern furniture history.
This particular piece comes from well-maintained private original ownership (acquired in the 1970s according to the previous owner) and retains its original Thonet logo (paper label) on the underside of the seat, highlighting the authentic history of this rare object. It impresses with its striking silhouette and the craftsmanship characteristic of this early edition. An object that excels both as functional seating and as a standalone work of art within a space.
CONDITION
Well-maintained, authentic condition with an age-appropriate patina. The surface shows signs of wear in the form of scratches and minor edge bumps/nicks with partial paint loss. There is a slight discoloration on the seat, which varies in visibility depending on the light. These marks do not detract from the sculptural character of the design. The chair is fully stable and the structure is intact.
